There seems to be a strange aura that leaks from deep within the Elder Scrolls series. With Skyrim there is endless modding potential (As well as porting potential, apparently). Morrowind has this magic affect on people that has only grown stronger since its release. Since every time it is mentioned in a conversation, at least 2 or 3 people re-download the game. Then we have Oblivion, a game that drags many, including myself, back to the realm of Tamriel on a regular basis.
Oblivion is one of those games that always makes you excited to play it. Whether it's your first time playing, or you're returning years later to see how your level 43 Breton is fairing, Oblivion always delivers a satisfying experience. While similar to other Bethesda RPG's, Oblivion allows you to truly forge your own path through the world. Want to fight in the arena? Go right ahead. Feeling like joining a cult? The mythic dawn can deliver. Want to murder a good majority of all the in game characters and get paid for it? Dark Brotherhood baby.
While the graphics didn't exactly age perfectly, the game still looks and feels very modern. The best example I can give is whenever you happen to be walking in the woods or along a main path, simply take in the surroundings and you may find yourself impressed.
Looking back at the 200+ hours I've poured into Oblivion, I feel like none of the time was wasted. Even when I had to traverse a particularly frustrating dungeon, the reward given was worth it about 95% of the time. The factions all seemed believable in their motives and the main quest wraps up quite nicely. So if you have access to a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, or any medium that can run a last gen game, I highly recommend spending some time in Tamriel.
